As International ME Awareness Day on May 12th approaches, we're excited to launch the #MEBCCommunityStrength Initiative. This initiative celebrates the incredible strength of our Province's ME/FM/Long-COVID community and calls for the systemic changes we need. Imagine a world where our voices are heard, our needs are met, and our strength is celebrated. That's the world we're working toward, and we need your help to get there. We have included step by step guidelines to use our Canva posts or just keep it simple and email us with your submission and we will create it for you.
How to Participate
There are a few ways to participate in the #MEBCCommunityStrength Initiative.
Here’s how you can get involved:
Identify Your Strength: Choose a personal strength you bring to the community (e.g., resilience, advocacy, empathy, hope, communication, organization).
Identify Your Need: Pick a systemic issue you wish to see changed (e.g., research funding, healthcare access, public awareness, workplace accommodations, education).
Create & Post: You have several options and we have listed them from ease:
a- Text-Only Post: Write, "My name is [Your Name], and as a [caregiver/loved one/someone living with/health care worker], my strength is [insert personal strength]. But we need [insert systemic change] to better support our community."
b- Email or DM Submissions: Send your photo and text to us via email. executivedirector@mefm.bc.ca or direct message, and we'll create the post for you.
c- Use Social Media Tools: Upload a photo and add text using your platform's tools.

How to Use Our Free Canva Images:
Download: Click on the link to download our free Canva images.
Open in Canva: Go to Canva.com and sign up for a free account if you don't have one.
Upload Image: Click "Uploads" on the left side, then "Upload an image" to add our template.
Add Your Text: Click on the template, then use the text tool to add your personal strength and need. Feel free to add your own images as well.
Download & Share: Save your image and share it on social media. Don't forget to tag @ME_FM_SOCIETY_OF_BC and use #MEBCCommunityStrength!

"My name is Sarah, and as someone living with ME, my strength is resilience. But we need more research funding to better support our community."
"My name is John, and as a caregiver, my strength is advocacy. But we need better healthcare access to better support our community."
"My name is Emily, and as a health care worker, my strength is empathy. But we need increased public awareness to better support our community."
"My name is Lisa, and as a caregiver, my strength is organization. The ME community would benefit from home care supports."
"My name is Mike, and as a loved one, my strength is patience. We need more support groups to help our community."
